This is not something we offer a five year old. For teenagers with permanent teeth and a stain that is actually bothering them, we have a painless option matched to what caused it.

What usually brings a teenager in for this
It is almost always one of a few things: staining that has built up from food or drink over time, discoloration left behind by a medication, teeth that have simply yellowed with age, or spots that trace back to a stretch of uneven brushing. None of that is unusual, and none of it is something to be embarrassed about bringing up.
It is worth saying plainly that this is a conversation we only have with our older patients. A young child's teeth are not a candidate for whitening, and we will tell you that directly if it comes up before it is appropriate.

How the appointment runs at Bartlett Pediatric Dentistry
Once a teenager is an appropriate candidate, the team chooses between two gentle approaches, micro abrasion or a bleaching treatment, based on what is actually causing the staining rather than applying the same treatment to every case. Both are done painlessly, in the same Bartlett or Atoka office your family already knows.
Because the method is matched to the cause, the first part of the visit is really about figuring out which kind of staining is involved. That is what decides whether micro abrasion or bleaching is the right call.

What to expect afterward
Done this way, whitening can genuinely improve how a stained tooth looks and help a self-conscious teenager feel better about their smile. What it will look like depends on the kind of staining involved to begin with, so we would rather talk it through at an appointment than promise a specific result in advance.
