What a six month gap actually lets build up
Plaque does not wait for a scheduled appointment. Left alone above and below the gum line it hardens into calculus, and calculus is not something a toothbrush at home can lift back off. You will not always see it. What you notice first is usually a change in how the gums look, a little puffier or pinker than usual, or a dull, filmy look to teeth that used to look bright right after brushing.
None of that means something has gone wrong. It means six months have passed, which is exactly the interval a cleaning is built around.

The hygienist works with soft brushes sized for a child's mouth, lifting plaque and calculus from above and below the gum line first. From there the teeth get polished, which is the step that clears the dull film and leaves a genuinely clean surface rather than just a brushed one.
The visit finishes with a fluoride treatment, applied directly to strengthen the enamel while it is already clean. It is a short appointment by design. A team that has run this same routine since 1979 has had a long time to keep it that way for a child who would rather be anywhere else.

Why keeping the six month rhythm matters more than any one visit
A cleaning is what stands between ordinary plaque and the two things it turns into if it is left, tooth decay and cavities. Catching it every six months is what keeps a filling or something bigger off the table later.
If it has been longer than six months since your child's last cleaning at either the Bartlett or Atoka office, that is reason enough on its own to call and get back on schedule, whether or not anything looks different yet.
