Before your child's appointment
A few small things from you before the visit make the appointment go smoother for your child and for our whole team.
Before you leave the house
Five things to check
Tell us about any change in health
Please notify us of any change in your child's health or medical condition before the appointment.
Not with a fever, ear infection or cold
Do not bring your child for treatment with a fever, ear infection or cold. Should your child become ill, contact us to see if it is necessary to postpone the appointment.
Tell the doctor about medications
You must tell the doctor about any drugs your child is currently taking, and about any drug reactions or changes in medical history.
Dress for comfort
Please dress your child in loose fitting, comfortable clothing.
Use the bathroom before you arrive
Please make sure your child goes to the bathroom immediately prior to arriving at the office.
After the appointment
Aftercare, explained at the visit
Every child's aftercare is a little different, so the specific instructions for your child are given to you in person at the appointment. Here is what each of those conversations covers.
Post sedation instructions
If your child has had oral or IV sedation, we give you specific instructions to follow at home at the time of the appointment, covering what to watch for and how to care for your child as the sedation wears off.
Post extraction care
After a tooth is removed, we walk you through how to care for the area at home so it heals well, and what would be worth a call back to the office.
Space maintainer care
If your child has a space maintainer fitted, we explain how to look after it day to day and what to avoid so it stays in place until the permanent tooth is ready.
Composite filling care
After a tooth coloured composite filling, we let you know how soon your child can eat normally and how to care for the tooth in the days that follow.
For children who need extra care
IV sedation certified, and hospital certified for in hospital visits
