The harder case is the child with none of those signs. Decay between two teeth, or hidden under the enamel where it started, does not announce itself. That is exactly the gap a radiograph closes, and why they are part of regular check-ups rather than only trouble visits.

Why catching it on film beats catching it in a filling
Decay diagnosed early, while it is still small, is a smaller and cheaper problem to treat than decay found once it has grown large enough to be visible or painful. That is the practical case for radiographs beyond diagnosis alone: finding something small now genuinely saves money later, not just discomfort.
If your child is due for a regular check-up, has had a recent fall, or you are noticing swelling or pain that does not have an obvious cause, that is worth a call to either office rather than waiting to see if it resolves on its own.
